Hello,I enjoyed your blog! Before my grandmother passed away in 1996 at the age of 85.she told me her grandparents were German Jews and in her words,"came to America on a cattle boat to escape persecution." Their names were Elizabeth Heidleberg and John Bickler .They changed the name to Bueglar,to sound less Jewish, when they settled in America. I recently went on Ancestry.com and found a match, saying they came from Bavaria. So,after reading your blog,I'm thinking they were part of this migaration from Bavaria from 1841-1855. THeir son,John Jacob Bueglar was my great-grandfather. He was married to an Irish girl,Mary Clydie Haney. They lived in Kentucky, then Ohio, where my grandmother Esther Bueglar was born. I would appreciate any info! Thank you and God bless!

I have used my Squeezebox for about six months, 5-10 hours/day. I daily listen to radio stations in New Zealand, France, Mexico and US. Most of the time it works fine, but repeatedly
- stations "die" for hours (because the Logitech server is unreliable?)
- the transmissions break for "software updates"
In addition, although there's a lot of stations on the lists, the logic of the list arrangement makes it a challenge to find a station - if it's at all in the list..
Because, a lot of international web radio stations are not accessible via Squeezebox. So, in addition you still need to use your computer.
In summary, it's a useful tool - most of the time, but not always - and not necessaryly giving you the stations you would like to/need to listen to.

Over fifty years ago Darrel Huff published a book "How to Lie with Statistics". It is still highly relevant today! The only valid inference of the wikipedia report is that the demographic profile published reflects on people, willing to respond to a lengthy questionnaire among wikipedia users.

Einstweilen also: congratulations! Und natürlich bin ich gespannt auf die follow-ups ...
P.S. Ausserdem habe ich ein neues englisches Wort gelernt: 'widget', gem. Webster's 7th New Collegiate Dictionary: an unnamed article considered for purposes of hypothetical example ...!

Dear Mr. Bloch, I am so glad you have started blogging! The cemetery photograph is beautiful. My father, Don Irish, has so much to say that he types over 100 words a minute, for most of the day. His blog is maintained by some friends of his from his Quaker meeting, where he has been involved for over four decades. I agree that some way, somehow, someone needs to digest my dad's writing and share it with others in a more accessible way. Reading the alternative press as I do, I think my dad's sentiments do get attention, but certainly not at the level and breadth that he would wish.

Happy Blogging! Sharon
